Groups up to 20 youths have been gathering at Truro's Hendra Skate Park - leading to police moving in to take action.

The skatepark is currently closed due to the second lockdown, to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

However, Truro, Perranporth and Tregony Police team said that over the weekend officers had to disperse groups from both the park and also the Viaduct Car Park.

Sergeant Andy Mulhern said: "We understand the wish to skate and how good it is for your physical and mental health. However, the current legislation states that you cannot meet more than one person from your own household to undertake exercise.

"We have had to disperse groups of up to 20 youths. Gatherings of this size could pose a risk of transmitting Covid-19 amongst themselves, their families, the wider community and my officers.

"Youths have been spoken with, evidence obtained via body worn video and on each occasion we will continue to engage, explain, encourage and - if we have to - enforce the legislation for the good of everyone in our community.

"Unfortunately my officers have encountered verbal abuse for doing their job, whilst protecting the vast majority of the public, who we thank for their continued commitment to fighting this deadly virus."
