A cyclist has been taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries this afternoon following a collision on the outskirts of Penryn.

Trenoweth Lane, just off the main road out of Mabe Burnthouse towards Longdowns, remains shut this evening following the collision between a car and a bicycle at around 2.30pm.

Police said that the man riding the bicycle had "potentially life-threatening" and has been taken to hospital via land ambulance.

A force spokesperson said officers were called to reports of a crash on Trenoweth Lane, where the Flicka Foundation donkey sanctuary is based.

She added: A man in his 70s was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries."

Traffic sensors are reporting that the road remains closed to traffic as of 5.30pm, following the collision between the junction and the Wesleyan Chapel on Antron Hill.

It adds that there is heavy traffic in the surrounding area as a result.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the collision involved a red Peugeot and a cyclist on a bicycle.
