The latest Covid case information for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has been published.

In the most recent update, as of 4pm today (Friday, November 27), the local authority area is shown to have 11 new cases recorded in the preceding 24 hours.

The government website states that the total number of cases in the local authority area now sits at 3,668.

There were 323 cases recorded in the seven days lead up to November 20. Data from the most recent five days is not shown due to being incomplete.

This represents a weekly rate of 56.5 cases per 100,000 people - which is more than third lower than last Friday when there was a rolling rate of 90.2 cases per 100,000 people.

The UK had 16,022 new cases reported, bringing the total to 1,589,301 nationally since the start of the pandemic.

A hospital death in Cornwall was recorded just over a week ago, last Saturday - at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust.

The patient died on Thursday, November 19 after testing positive for coronavirus and it was noted in Saturday's figures from NHS England.

The total number of hospital deaths in Cornwall stands at 96, with 70 of them recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust and 26 at the Cornwall Partnerships NHS Trust.

Nationally, a further 338 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 39,908.

Patients were aged between 31 and 105 years old. All except 12 - aged 45 to 93 - had known underlying health conditions, according to NHS England.

The date of their deaths ranged from September 30 to November 26 and their families have been informed.

Of these, 19 people were in the south west, but none in Cornwall.

The rate of new infections of coronavirus could be starting to shrink according to the latest data from the government.

The weekly Friday figures from the Government and SAGE (the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies) were updated this lunchtime and they show a further drop in both the reproduction and growth rate for the region.

It follows the announcement on Thursday that Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly is one of only two local authorities to be placed in Tier 1 - along with the Isle of Wight - once national lockdown restrictions are lifted next Wednesday.

At a briefing by Cornwall Council the council’s deputy leader Adam Paynter said that there had been warnings that Tier One areas were expected to be the only parts of the country where coronavirus cases could continue to rise.
