It proved to be a bad moment to break down for the occupant of a van on the A30 last night after police went to help - and ended up arresting them for other matters.
Explaining what had happened, the Devon and Cornwall Police 'No Excuse' road safety team said officers had initially stopped to help after seeing the broken down van on the dual carriageway near Temple.
However, a spokesperson said: "[We] stopped to assist and see beer cans and drug paraphernalia in the cab.

"Positive drug wipe followed by failure to provide blood in custody."
As a result the occupant was charged and remanded overnight for a court appearance due today.
