Two weeks of roadworks are to begin on one of Helston's major link roads from tomorrow.

The Furry will be shut between the roundabout with Meneage Street, next to the Spar shop, leading down the hill to the roundabout junction for Monument Road.

It is likely to cause major disruption to the town, being the main route to Penzance from that end of Helston and anyone travelling from the Lizard Peninsula.

It also provides access to one of the town's biggest housing estates, in the form of Bulwark and Albion Road, and is also the route to reach Nansloe Acamdey primary school.

Although the closure does not begin until 9.30am each day, it is not scheduled to end until 4pm daily - past the normal afternoon school pick up time.

The traffic closure order is in place from Monday, November 30, with the work expected to be completed by Friday, December 11.

However, it is in operation on weekdays only, with traffic free to travel at weekends.

It has been put in place so that resurfacing of the road can be carried out.

Diversions will be put in place during this time, leading traffic coming from the Penzance road via Monument Road, Coinagehall Street, Market Place, Wendron Street, Godolphin Road, Clodgey Lane, Meneage Road and then Meneage Street.

Any vehicles heading towards Penzance from the Lizard Peninsula must go down through the town centre and meet the roundabout via Monument Road.
