FOUR homes had to be evacuated in the middle of the night after a carbon monoxide went off in a property at Lelant.

A resident of one of the homes made a non-emergeny call to the fire service's Critical Control centre in Truro after the alarm went off at 1:43am.

Fire crews from Hayle and St Ives were mobilised and despatched to the scene because of concerns over the carbon monoxide reading.

The crews carried out gas readings on two properties and evacuated four of them as a precaution.

After testing it was decided there was no risk from CO2 poisoning and the residents were allowed home.

A force spokesman said: "At 01:43 Critical Control received a non-emergency call from an occupant with concerns about a carbon monoxide alarm sounding. As the alarm also gave a digital reading that carbon monoxide was present, a decision was made to mobilise crews to investigate.

"Two appliances, one from Hayle and one from St Ives were mobilised along with a Station Manager from Truro. Crews wearing breathing apparatus carried out gas testing in the affected property and two adjacent properties. Four properties were temporarily evacuated as a precaution.

"After completing relevant gas testing the Incident Commander was satisfied that there was no risk from carbon monoxide and resources were released from the incident back to their home stations."
