Cornwall's most activated speed camera over the past year has been revealed.

It's as another of the county's cameras loses its place as being the one where most drivers across Devon and Cornwall are caught breaking the speed limit.

In 2020 the one to catch out most drivers in Cornwall has been the A390 Grampound camera between Truro and St Austell, which saw a total of 1,925 activations as of the end of October this year.

However, this was only eighth in the list of top ten cameras in the region for this year so far - and is the only one in the Duchy to feature this year.

Topping the list is a speed camera in Plymouth, which looks likely reclaim its crown as being the most activated camera in the two counties - a title it has won in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

The camera on the A386 Alma Road in Plymouth has seen almost double the number of activations of any other camera in the two counties so far this year – and double the number it received in 2019.

To date, in 2020 it has caught an average of 28 drivers a day breaking the speed limit, with the camera being activated 8,658 times up until October 31.

The road, despite being two lanes of dual carriageway, has a 30mph speed limit and catches many motorists out.

Last year, however, it was a camera in Cornwall that saw the most number of drivers caught.

A Freedom of Information Request to Devon and Cornwall Police revealed that it was the Roseworthy Dip on the A30 between Camborne and Hayle topping the list, having been activated 8,687 times during the 12-month period. This year, thought, it does not even make the top ten.

Further along the A30, the camera at Fingle Glen near Exeter has had the third highest number of activations so far this year. The full top ten list can be found below.

The figures relate to the total number of activations at the site, and do include emergency vehicles.
