While some towns have seen a loss of businesses in recent months Helston has just welcomed its newest shop with an official opening ceremony by the mayor.

John Martin was on hand to cut the ribbon as Ann Pascoe opened Manor Fashions in Meneage Street, in the former branch of Santander.

The unit lay empty for three years until being taken over by Ann, who has now turned it into a base for her specialist outfits for weddings and also a new range of casual items for everyday shoppers.

The shop opened on Wednesday, as the lockdown lifted, ahead of its official launch today.

Ann said she had been delighted by the support she had received, both from passersby and also neighbouring businesses.

She said: "I've had a lot of encouragement from people passing by and coming in, saying it's lovely to see me open.

"And also from the other traders; I've had a lot of support from them."

She gave a special thank you to Robert Williams of JC Williams across the road, who she said had been especially supportive, and also to joiner Martin Kemp who had been "working night shifts" staying in the shop until 11pm each night at the start of the week, in an effort to get it ready for Wednesday's opening.

Mayor Mr Martin said: "Congratulations to Ann and the team - the shop is looking magnificent.

"I'm sure you'll make a success of it."

Ann is known throughout the south west for her mother of the bride outfits, with people coming from Plymouth and even further afield to her business of ten years, which was previously run from her home near Sithney.

She will now also be selling a range of dresses, trousers, skirts, tops and jumpers, which she described as more fitted style smart-casuals from a variety of brands including Danish company Cream.

She hopes people will give feedback and let her know what kind of clothes they would like her to stock.

Manor Fashions will be open from 9.30am to 4.30pm Tuesday to Friday and 9.30am to 1pm on Saturdays, although appointments can still be booked later.
