More deaths have been recorded in Cornwall in today's round-up on the latest Covid-19 information - as well as a sizeable rise in cases. 

Two further people have died after testing positive for coronavirus.

Both died on Saturday (December 12) but their deaths have only now been recorded in today's update.

It brings the total number of hospital deaths in Cornwall to 99, with 73 of them at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust and the remaining 26 taking place at the Cornwall Partnerships NHS Trust earlier in the year.

The most recent hospital death in the county before the latest update was on Wednesday, December 2.

Nationally a further 369 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 45,126.

Patients were aged between 40 and 100 years old.

All except 13 – aged 61 to 93 years old – had known underlying health conditions, according to NHS England.

The dates of their deaths ranged from August 4 to December 15, with the majority being on or after December 13, and their families have been informed.

Of these, 19 deaths were reported in the south west.

Today's news cases have now been updated.

As of 6.04pm today (Wednesday, December 16), the local authority area has had 76 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours. This is compared to 13 cases recorded last Wednesday. 

The government website states that the total number of cases recorded in the local authority area since the start of the pandemic now sits at at 4,144.

There were 148 cases recorded in the seven days lead up to December 10. Data from the most recent five days is not shown due to being incomplete.

This represents a weekly rate of 25.9 cases per 100,000 people.

The UK has had 25,161 18,450 new cases reported in the previous 24 hours - 6,711 more than yesterday's figure and bringing the total to 1,913,277 nationally since the start of the pandemic.
