More GP practices in Cornwall will begin vaccinating people against coronavirus from tomorrow (Saturday).

Practices in the Falmouth and Penryn primary care network (PCN), along with North Kerrier (East) and Watergate PCNs will join the huge effort to try and bring the country back to normality from the pandemic.

They will join St Austell Healthcare PCN, Truro PCN and Three Harbours and Bosvena Health PCN, who started earlier this week.

GPs and other primary care staff have been working around the clock to deliver this part of the roll-out.

The Covid-19 vaccine is being rolled out across the country to people most at risk. People aged 80 and over as well as care home workers are the first to receive the vaccine.

GP Mark Morris, primary care network clinical manager for Falmouth and Penryn, said: “We are delighted that we will be able to welcome the first of our patients who are 80 year old and over, with more vaccinations planned for those within the priority group who have been invited to book an appointment in coming days.”

The order in which people – including NHS staff – are offered the vaccine is based on advice from the independent Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation at a national level.

When it is your turn to receive the vaccine, based on the priority groups set out by the JCVI advice, you will be contacted by the NHS - please do not contact your GP practice, local hospital, or other local NHS services.

GP Rob White, clinical lead for the COVID-19 vaccination programme and NHS Kernow Governing Body member, said: “It has been a very emotional week.

"The speed and professionalism at which the GPs have worked has been nothing short of astounding, especially given the short time for logistical planning to deliver the vaccine, set up the clinics and book patients in for their appointments.”

People who are invited for a COVID-19 vaccination appointment and are unable to attend should let the team know as soon as they can as this will enable someone else to use the appointment and get protected.
