The number of coronavirus cases in Cornwall has almost doubled in a week, latest figures show.

Last Saturday the weekly case amount was 251 cases, but today's coronavirus map shows that in the seven days leading up to December 21 there have been 490 cases.

The most recent five days are left off due to incomplete data not reflecting the true number of cases.

The number of cluster areas has also risen by 18 in a week to 58, although this is the same number as on Wednesday's map in the midweek update.

However, some areas are showing many more cases than three days ago.

They include St Agnes & Mount Hawke, which is now showing 21 cases - which the map says is a 950 per cent rise on the previous week and a rolling case rate of 250.9, which is roughly the national average.

The Lizard Peninsula now has 15 cases, Probus & Roseland 16 cases and the St Austell area a total of 34 cases across its three cluster areas.

The two clusters showing the highest number of the cases remains Callington & Pensilva with 33 cases and a rolling rate of 395.3, and Gunnislake & Calstock, which has 26 cases and a rolling rate of 402.7 - both above the national average.

Cornwall overall has a seven-day rolling rate of 85.7 cases per 100,000 people.

Clusters are only shown when there are at least three confirmed results, with anywhere having between zero and two cases showing white in order to "protect the privacy of individuals and prevent disclosure."

The map shows positive cases by 'Middle Super Output Area' - the name the government gives to the break-up of larger towns and groups of neighbouring towns and villages, with groupings covering a greater area than others.

The minimum population in each area is 5,000 and the average is 7,200.
