The latest Covid-19 case information for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has now been published.

As of 4.35pm today (Tuesday, January 19) there have been 157 new cases in the region recorded in the previous 24 hours.

The total number of cases in the local authority area since the start of the pandemic now sits at 10,702. Saturday's update saw the number of cases in the area rise past the 10,000 milestone.

There were 1,638 cases recorded in the seven days leading up to January 14. Data from the most recent five days is not shown due to being incomplete.

This represents a weekly rate of 286.5 cases per 100,000 people.

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK has increased by 33,355 in the last 24 hours.

This brings the total to 3,466,849 nationally since the start of the pandemic.

No new Covid-related deaths have been reported in Cornwall's hospitals in today's NHS update.

Nationally, a further 842 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died in hospitals in England in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number to 62,295.

Of these, 46 deaths were in the south west.

Five new deaths were reported at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust on Saturday. Two of these took place on Wednesday (January 13), bringing the total on that day to three, with another three on Thursday (January 14).

Two further deaths were also registered at the Cornwall Partnerships NHS Trust, with the most recent taking place on Thursday (January 14) and the other on a date not specified.

There have been 18 deaths reported in Cornwall's hospitals since Wednesday last week.

It brings the number of deaths at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust to 105, with a further 31 taking place at the Cornwall Partnerships NHS Trust, meaning altogether there have been 136 Covid-related deaths in Cornwall's hospitals since the start of the pandemic.

The overall total number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – now sits at 240 recorded in the 28 days after a positive test result. The total number of deaths with Covid-19 simply on the death certificate remains at 251 on the government dashboard, as this is updated weekly.

In the UK overall another 1,610 people have died within 28 days of their first positive test result -the highest number of UK deaths on a single day since the pandemic began.

This brings the total number of UK deaths within 28 days to 91,470. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

As of Monday, 4,266,577 people in the UK have now received their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 456,866 people have received their second dose.
