A big-name supermarket has spoken more of its plans for moving into Truro.

Lidl has confirmed this morning that it is to build a new store in the city, as part of its ongoing expansion ambitions.

At the same it said it was "committed" to supporting the development of a new sporting venue in the area, after taking over the Truro City Football Club ground in Treyew Road.

The announcement comes as Lidl confirms that it has purchased the site from Jojo Investco Limited and has now begun construction.

As part of the formal planning agreement, Lidl will support the ‘Stadium for Cornwall’ project and contribute £2.1 million to the plans, which want to see a new 10,000-seater stadium built in Truro, as well as give £600,000 to temporarily relocate Truro City Football Club so it is able to continue training and playing whilst the new stadium is completed.

The club revealed that it was vacating the ground in a statement on Twitter this morning.
