Three more people have died from coronavirus in Cornwall's hospitals.

This brings the total of hospital deaths in the county involving patients who have tested positive for Covid-19 to 149.

Today's data from NHS England states that two further deaths were recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust on January 19, which brings the total number of people to have died in the Trust's hospitals to 113.

There has been one further death at the Cornwall Partnerships NHS Trust, on January 19, bringing the total to 36.

The overall total number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – has risen to 255 recorded in the 28 days after a positive test result. 

Nationally, a further 789 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died in hospitals in England in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number to 64,111.

Patients were aged between 8 and 111 years old. All except twenty-eight (aged 25 to 97 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from October 20 to 20 January 20 with the majority being on or after January 17.

Their families have been informed.

Of these, 43 deaths were in the south west.

Yesterday, in the UK overall, another 1,290 people have died within 28 days of their first positive test result.

This brings the total number of UK deaths within 28 days to 94,580. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

The latest Covid-19 case information for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has been published.

As of 4.11pm today (Thursday, January 21) there has been 165 new cases in the region recorded in the previous 24 hours.

The total number of cases in the local authority area since the start of the pandemic sits at 11,018.

There were 1,480 cases recorded in the seven days leading up to January 16. Data from the most recent five days is not shown due to being incomplete.

This represented a weekly rate of 258.8 cases per 100,000 people.

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK has also increased by 37,892 in 24 hours.

This brought the total to 3,543,646 nationally since the start of the pandemic.

As of Thursday (January 22), 4,973,248 people in the UK had received their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 464,036 people have received their second dose.
