The number of deaths involving patients testing positive for Covid-19 in Cornwall has risen for the sixth day this week.

There has now been hospital deaths reported in six out of the last seven daily updates from NHS England.

The most recent death was recorded on January 28 at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, bringing its total to 141, while the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust has seen 42 deaths.

It's as figures show there has been at least one death in a Cornish hospital every day since January 6, up to Thursday this week.

There has now been a total of 183 deaths in Cornwall's hospitals since the start of the pandemic.

The overall total number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – has now risen to 323 recorded in the 28 days after a positive test result, including four reported today.

The total number of deaths with only Covid-19 on the death certificate remained at 281 on the government dashboard, as this figure is only updated weekly.

NHS England has updated its hospital figures for today, showing a further 681 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died in hospitals in England in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number to 71,226.

Patients were aged between 18 and 101 years old. All except 23 – aged 47 to 92 years old – had known underlying health conditions and their families have been informed.

The date of the deaths ranged from November 11, 2020 to January 29, 2021.

Of these 18 were in the south west.

The overall UK figures show 1,200 more people to have died within 28 days of their first positive test result.

This takes the total number of UK deaths within 28 days to 105,571. These figures includes people in care home and other settings.

As of 4pm today (Saturday, January 30) there have been 123 new cases in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly recorded in the previous 24 hours.

The total number of cases in the local authority area since the start of the pandemic now sits at 12,318.

There were 1,018 cases recorded in the seven days leading up to January 25. Data from the most recent five days is not shown due to being incomplete.

This represents a weekly rate of 178.0 cases per 100,000 people.

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK has also increased, by 23,275 in the previous 24 hours.

This brings the total to 3,796,088 nationally since the start of the pandemic.

There are 8,378,940 people in the UK that have now received their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 480,432 people have received their second dose.
