The main road through Porthleven has been closed to traffic this evening as giant waves batter the port.

This photograph from Giles Clotworthy shows the height of the waves and the power of the sea battering Porthleven today.

Police and coastguards are now on the scene and have closed of Harbour Road, through the centre of the village, due to water coming over the road.

They are also keeping people away from getting too close to the water.

Traffic monitoring system INRIX is reporting: "Harbour Road, both ways, closed due to traffic problem from B3304 Fore Street to Cliff Road.

"Traffic is coping well.

"The road has been closed for safety reasons."

Police arrived at the harbour at around 5pm to assess the situation and after liaising with Porthleven Coastguard Team has shut the road off to protect motorists and passersby.
