Weekly cases of coronavirus in Cornwall have fallen below 1,000 this week – for the first time this year.

There was a huge spike in cases at the very end of last year, with 554 cases reported in the week leading up to December 25 but only a few days later that figure had risen to 1,008 cases recorded in the week leading up to December 28.

Now, today's update on the Government dashboard shows that in the seven days leading up to January 29 there were 915 cases.

This marks a reduction of 134 cases on a week ago – a fall of 12.8 per cent.

The rolling rate of cases is now 160 cases per 100,000 people.

On today's cluster map there are now seven areas not showing cases: St Germans & St Mellion, Kingsand, Antony & Maryfield, Torpoint, Gunnislake & Calstock, Crackington & Tintagel, Poundstock & Kilkhampton, and Bude & Stratton.

The map only shows clusters when there are at least three confirmed results, with anywhere with between zero and two cases shows white in order to "protect the privacy of individuals and prevent disclosure."

There are now only eight clusters in Cornwall showing more than 20 cases: Camborne East (21), St Day & Lanner (26), Truro West (25), Tywardreath & Fowey (35), Roche & Goss Moor (27), Lostwithiel & Penwithick (46), Bodmin West (23) and Bodmin East (46).

Lostwithiel & Penwithick, and Bodmin East, have the joint highest number of cases for a single cluster, with 46 each.

Bodmin has the overall highest number of cases for a town, with a combined 69 cases across the two cluster areas, Bodmin West (23) and Bodmin East (46).

The map shows positive cases by 'Middle Super Output Area' - the name the government gives to the break-up of larger towns and groups of neighbouring towns and villages, with groupings covering a greater area than others.

The minimum population in each area is 5,000 and the average is 7,200.
