The Met Office has issued a yellow weather alert for heavy rain and flooding for parts of Devon and Cornwall from Friday 19 to Saturday 20.

The heavy rain is forecast to hit from 9am Friday and last until noon Saturday with the risk of disruption to transport services and utilities.

A yellow warning means an area of heavy rain may lead to surface water flooding and could also affect homes and businesses in the area.

The Met Office predicts that between 70mm and 100mm of rainfall is possible with the highest ground of Dartmoor and the Brecon Beacons potentially seeing up to 150 mm.

A spokesperson for the organisation has said: "After a few spells of heavy rain on preceding days, another band of rain is expected to push east across Wales and much of western England through Friday, this becoming slow-moving, before clearing on Saturday.

"Whilst many places will see a spell of heavy rain, high ground of southwest England and south Wales will likely see the largest rainfall totals."

As well as heavy rain, strong to gale force southerly winds are expected to be an additional hazard.
