EDIT 5PM: The family of Chris Brookes has now given a further update to say that he has sadly passed away: Sad update over missing Falmouth pensioner as community thanked for their help

The family of a missing pensioner who was at the centre of an all-night search after failing to return from a walk yesterday evening say he has been found.

Chris Brookes, aged 89, had left the Marlborough Avenue area of Falmouth at 6.30pm on Thursday and had not been seen since.

However, in the last few minutes, just before 9am today (Friday), the Packet has been told by his goddaughter Freyja Penaluna that he has been found.

Police had asked people to call 999 if they saw him, with a search by emergency services taking place all last night.

West Cornwall Search and Rescue Team volunteers were called in to help police with the search just before 11.30pm last night, with 20 team members involved.

Also involved in the hunt were Falmouth Lifeboat, Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team, Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Team and the police helicopter.

People were asked to check their gardens and outbuildings.

A spokesperson for West Cornwall SRT said this morning, at 7.30am: "A vast amount of areas have been covered including urban and parkland locations."

At that time there had still been no sighting of Chris, but in the last few minutes Freyja said her goddfather had been found.

"Falmouth is such a wonderful community pulling together."
