Cornish Pirates will host Jersey Reds, on February 27, in a season warm up friendly.

The tie will be played at the Mennaye Field with a kick off time of 2pm, a week before their season gets underway against Saracens on March 6.

Pleased that such a fixture has been confirmed, Cornish Pirates’ joint Head Coach Gavin Cattle said: “With it difficult in the current circumstances to get a warm-up match, having worked closely with Harvey (Harvey Biljon, Jersey Reds’ Director of Rugby) during the past couple of weeks we are grateful to them that we have managed to slot in this game at the last minute.

“It is pleasing, as both teams are desperate to get some meaningful action under their belts. There is only so much you can do against each other so we’re just looking forward to getting that competitive fixture and to get rugby up and running.”

Director of Rugby, Harvey Biljon, who left the Pirates for Jersey in 2014, said: "I’m really grateful to the Pirates for their willingness to get this game on and expect it to be hugely beneficial for both sides as we get ready for league rugby.

"There have been some great games between the clubs over the years and it’s nice to have both home and away fixtures in the calendar."

Pirates will visit the island of Jersey on May 29th during their league campaign.

The last time the two sides met, Cattle's side came out on top after beating The Islanders 23-10 in January last year.

Due to current Covid restrictions it will not be possible for supporters to attend the game. However, fans can still watch the game via 247.tv for a fee of £10.
