Access to one of Falmouth's most popular beaches is to severely restricted from next month when the road that runs past it is closed for five weeks due to essential maintenance.

Drivers are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys from next month when Maenporth Road is closed for five weeks for patching works to be carried out.

Cormac is carrying out the work as part of its planned maintenance activities with the road closure in place from Monday, March 8 to Friday April 6 while civil engineering works take place.

The road will be closed between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday and will be reopened after working hours and at the weekend, where it is safe to do so.

Marshalls will be on site to help people whose homes border the road and local businesses who will need access during this period. A diversion will be in place when the road is closed and a Cormac spokesman said the work will obviously effect travel in the surrounding area and people should make suitable arrangements to ensure they can get around.

“We will have marshalls on site to support residents and businesses needing local access," they said. "All through traffic will need to follow the diversions in place at all times when the road is closed.

“As the scheme may impact travel to surrounding areas, we would urge road users to allow extra time for their journey.”

People are being urged to park away from the work site while the works are ongoing.
