Redruth Town Council is planning on holding a virtual and interactive St Piran's day celebration in light of lockdown restrictions resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Following government restrictions, the celebration will be held mainly on Redruth Town Council's Facebook page and will include interactive activities and videos of Redruth past and present.

The activities available on the day will include colouring sheets of the town mascot, Tolgus, as well as crosswords and word-searches that will be downloadable from the Facebook page.

Lara McShee, Community Project Manager, said: "We're just trying to keep the community connected with stuff that we're doing, with our heritage and history, and celebrating the day for Cornish and non-Cornish people.

"We're just trying to help people remember that we're still here and we'll come fighting back once all of this (covid restrictions) has gone.

"We've put together a nice video of past pictures, and it's lovely to see what the festival can be like and we've put together a video with drone footage, which is a big thing for us as its something we've never done as a town council, which has some lovely music from the educational music hub.

"It's a big day for Cornish people and, unfortunately, it's not going to be as big as it has been but the virtual content is still exciting.

"Hopefully by 2022 all of our festivals will be back to some kind of normality.

"I'm hopeful for St Piran's next year, that's were I think we'll be really able to fly the flag for Cornwall and say 'we're here, you didn't knock us down too much'."
