Popular Cornish institution Ann's Pasties is looking to expand its offerings over the next month with a new premises and also, eventually, two permanent bars.

Ann's Pasties has applied to Cornwall Council for a premises license in the hopes that both its Porthleven and The Lizard shops will eventually be able to serve both pasties and pints, once restrictions allow.

The pasty maker, which is well known locally and prides itself on using produce gathered from within a ten-mile radius, has had quite the journey throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and is now looking to give back to the local community that supported it through the local and national lockdowns.

Fergus Muller, who is now driving the Ann's Pasties business, said: "This time last year we were on our knees (due to lockdown), we'd expanded quite quickly and we were wondering what to do, and then suddenly we were inundated with postal orders.

"That turned the firm around and we've been able to reinvest and employ more and open up a new shop.

"Ann's Pasties in Porthleven has got a licence, and we're making that bar permanent now, so we're really pushing the 'Ann's pasty and pint.'

"In The Lizard, we're moving mum's shop down the road to old Steps Newsagent, and we'll also be doing 'pasty and a pint' there, too.

"We don't want to go mass produced, so we want to get our shops going nicely and we thought that if we were to put the upsale of a beer to it, it'd be a nice way to go.

"People seem to like the concept of 'pasty and a pint.'"

Ann's Pasties in Helston will be opening up tomorrow (Tuesday) for takeaways, although not alcohol, and both bars are currently being prepared for opening once restrictions allow sales of alcohol to resume.

Fergus also added: "This is our next step, this is what we're going to be doing now.

"We don't think we're going to be able to do anymore shops as we've got the ten-mile radius that we get our ingredients from, and we don't want to change our ethos.

"It's going to keep us at the right level, I reckon, and our idea is to also bring Cornish beer into it so that we can have a nice bar next to the pasties.

"We're linking with the Harbour Brewing Company to do all of our beers and they're from Bodmin."

Ann's Pasties will also soon be doing a 10% discount to its existing customers as a way of thanking them for sticking by the business.

"We just wanted to say a big thank you to the local community for sticking by us.

"When we reopened the shop we felt a lot of warmth towards us and we're very, very grateful."

Ann's Pasties also produced a special video, which you can watch below, entitled 'Beautifully Cornish' showcasing how they feel about being Cornish and the love, care and attention that goes into all of Ann's Pasties products.
