A 'GREENER' town centre could be welcoming shoppers once they return to the streets of Falmouth when lockdown is lifted, Falmouth Town Council has been told.

The Falmouth Town Team says it is looking to make the town centre more green by applying to a special fund to buy planters and plants to enhance the high street.

Town centre manager Richard Gates told a recent meeting of Falmouth Town Council that the team is going to apply for some money from Reopening High Street Safety Fund before the end of March to improve Market Street and 'various' other places.

He said the money will used to buy planters and plants as "a lot of people want to see a lot more greenery in the town centre".

"We use Market Street as an example," he said "because it is always that area that looks quite cold and unwelcoming. So we want to try and improve that in areas with canopies that are being worked on from basics to just giving some impact. Got to be sensible in what we can do in terms of the road and to be safe but also just to try and highlight it and that will be something that develops over the next few months."
