One of Cornwall’s leading heating companies has announced it will be strengthening its commitment to increasing sustainability and reducing emissions.

Penryn-based Blue Flame Heating Solutions confirmed that 25% of its new vehicle acquisitions will be fully electric, launching the initiative as part of its goal to reduce carbon emissions.

The company currently has 56 vehicles in its fleet to support its 13,000 customers across Cornwall.

Blue Flame founder and director, Mark Bolitho, said: "Over the coming months 24 of our 56-vehicle fleet will be replaced, and 25% of those new vehicles will be fully electric with zero carbon emissions.

"We are committed to accelerating the transition to electric vehicles and making it standard in business by 2030.

"We really want to do our part to help the UK reach its net zero carbon emissions target by 2050."

Already spearheading Blue Flame’s mission are the company’s recent arrivals - two BMW i3 cars and four Renault Kangoo ZE vans, which are already on the roads across the Cornish countryside.

To support the move towards electric, the Blue Flame team are in the process of installing charging points and a new photovoltaic panel array at their offices to charge them and further reduce its carbon emissions.

Fellow Blue Flame founder and director, Paul Smith, said: "Being able to charge our vehicles using our own charging point powered by our own solar panels made perfect sense.

"We’re aiming to complete these installations by summer 2021."

The company will also be replacing 18 of its Ford Transit Custom vans with new, more efficient models.
