Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal fire in Redruth.

Police were alerted to the fire by Cornwall Fire and Rescue and attended the incident which took place on North Street, Redruth.

A spokesperson for C&D Police said: "At around 9.35pm om Friday 26 March, police were alerted by Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service to a fire at an address in North Street, Redruth.

"The fire service was met with a property filled with black smoke upon its arrival.

"An 83-year-old woman was pronounced deceased at the scene and the next of kin have been informed.

"The fire is not currently being treated as suspicious. Police continue to investigate the circumstances and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue service said: "At 21:22 on Friday March 26, Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service Critical Control Centre at Tolvaddon received a call to a fire at an address in North Street, Redruth. 

"Two appliances from Tolvaddon and one from Falmouth were sent. 

"Sadly, an 83 year old female was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

"Next of kin have been informed. A Police and Fire investigation continues."
