Helston Town Council has released a statement regarding vandalism that occurred last weekend.

The Cades Parc play area became the latest victim of vandals over the weekend as plants and trees, that had been planted as part of a community project, were ripped up.

In a statement on its social media page, Helston Town Council said: "We are saddened to report that over the weekend the play area at Cades Parc was vandalised.

"Young trees, that were planted last autumn as part of a partnership project with the Helston Climate Action Group, have been broken apart and are no longer viable.

"Plants have also been ripped up.

"The Council is disappointed with this incident which is particularly upsetting for our Grounds Maintenance Team who work hard maintaining our green spaces for the enjoyment of the residents of Helston.

"This incident has been reported to the Police.

"If you have any information about the people who were involved in this vandalism please let us know.

"We have also suffered a spate of vandalism at the Parade Public Toilets at Trengrouse Way, particularly over the last month.

"If anyone has any information about these incidents we would also be grateful to hear from you."

This latest act of anti-social behaviour has come just after Helston Railway suffered and similar incident.

In that case, the culprits, who were caught on the railway's CCTV cameras, smashed the windows of carriages, engines and the crew room as well as graffitied bridges and let off fire extinguishers after breaking in to get them.

Perhaps most upsetting though is the smashing of a slate memorial to a past driver of the branch back in its working days.

Police have been informed of both incidents.

Helston Climate Action group have also been approached for comment over the vandalism at Cades Parc.
