AN award-winning baritone sang at the funeral of the late Mrs Shirley Frances Edwina Pascoe of Penryn who passed away on February 24, 2021 at home.

The funeral service took place at St Gluvias Church, Penryn on March 11 followed by interment at Edgcumbe Methodist Churchyard.

The service was conducted by Rev Steve Smith. Paul Nesbitt sang at Shirley’s request.

Shirley was a proud Cornish woman. She moved to Penryn at the age of four years and grew up in the town.

She attended Penryn National School until leaving at the age of 15 when she went to work at M&S in Falmouth. In 1958 Shirley married and travelled the world with her husband.

During his 26 years in the Light Infantry she cared for her husband and children as well as supported other army wives. Her love for Cornwall remained strong and in 1983, on Tony’s retirement from the army, they farmed at Mentone Farm in Treverva.

Tony passed away in 1992 and in 1994 Shirley retired from farming and moved back to her beloved Penryn.

She worked as the Secretary for Penryn Old Folks Club and supported the Penryn Federation as well as local town events.

She leaves her children, Keith, Nicole and Michelle, grandchildren Naomi, David, Mark, Amy and Beth and six great-grandchildren.

Shirley’s family wish to express their sincerest thanks to Paul Nesbitt, all who were able to attend her recent funeral, sent floral tributes, donated to the Army Benevolent Fund or sent messages of sympathy following their loss.
