A DISCARDED bus ticket may provide a clue as to who left rubbish on a popular beach near Mullion this week.

The ticket was found amongst a wide array of smashed glass, bottles, cans, a BBQ, food containers, plastic wrappers and face masks found on Polurrian Beach on Wednesday, April 7.

The rubbish was discovered by Rich Mulrayne from Mullion Surf Life Savers and was particularly galling as he had only cleaned up the same area the day before.

The bus ticket was for a half single, from Ashton going to Helston on Tuesday, April 6 2021 at 17.14.

Thanking Anna Cullen and Juliet Mitchell from Mullion Surf Life Savers for their help in clearing the rubbish up, Mr Mulryne said: "This morning's walk on Polurrian discovered a wonderful array of smashed glass, bottles, cans, a BBQ, food containers, plastic wrappers and face masks.

Falmouth Packet:

"A joyous sight it was, especially as I had cleaned that space only yesterday.

"So, one dog got a cut paw on this new debris and another is poorly from eating the food that was left.

"Amongst the abandoned trash was a bus ticket!

On Monday around Garro Lane to the Gym and down Bumpy lane they also picked up Co-op bags, beer cans, water bottles, cardboard, sweet wrappers, a massive plastic bag and an abandoned cardigan among other random plastics.

However Mr Mulryne said he had been heartened by responses to an earlier post about rubbish dumped on the beach saying he'd woken up to posts from parents saying their youngsters had been down the beach last night and had independently cleared up after themselves.

"It’s so encouraging to hear that these guys and girls were able to go let off steam, be themselves and were still respectful to their surroundings," he said. "Hopefully we can all work together to keep spreading the word and encouraging each other to look after our space.

"Being a community, helping each other, supporting each other, highlighting problems and working together to try to find a way to resolve them, is what I feel living here is what it’s all about. As a tighter unit we will be better prepared when more people arrive to experience this beautiful place and not all of them will be equipped with respectfulness, they will need reminding and/or cleaning up after them, like we do to “our” own!"
