The latest information relating to Covid-19 has now been updated – and there's been a change in the way cases are reported.

As such the total for new cases in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly appears to show zero, but a note on the Government dashboard warns: "Newly reported cases at regional and local authority level within England are calculated as the daily change in the total number of cases.

"This means that for April 9, 2021, these show significantly lower numbers or zero, and should not be considered as the actual number of new cases reported on that date."

It also means that the the total number of cases recorded in the local authority area since the start of the pandemic has dropped back to 14,055, from 14,127.

As a result, the number of weekly cases has dropped also, meaning that it now shows 62 cases to have been reported in the seven days leading to April 4, from 81 weekly cases yesterday. The most recent five days are not shown due to incomplete data.

The weekly rate is now at 10.8 cases per 100,000 people, compared to 14.2 cases yesterday.

Further detail reads: "Cases that have been identified through a positive rapid lateral flow test will be removed for people who took Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests within three days that were all negative.

"Cases of this type that were previously reported were removed from the cumulative total, reducing the total by 8,010.

"Newly reported numbers of cases for the UK and England were unaffected by the removal of these. Historical published date totals have not been changed."

Yesterday saw one further hospital death at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust recorded, involving a patient testing positive for Covid-19.

The total number of Covid-related deaths at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust rose to 201 while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it remained at 62.

The combined number of Covid-19 deaths in total in Cornwall's hospitals since the start of the pandemic stood at 263.

No update has been given yet from NHS England on today's figures.

The Government dashboard shows that the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – remains at 465 in the 28 days after a positive test, due to a difference in reporting times.

The number of deaths simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate has now updated and registers 564 up to March 26, the most recent data available. This figure is usually updated weekly on a Tuesday and included two further deaths in the last total.
