In just four weeks votes will be counted to find out who will have seats in the council chamber at County Hall as the new Cornwall Council is formed.

Polling day is on May 6 but what elections are being held in Cornwall and how are they different this year?

Firstly the number of councillors being elected to Cornwall Council will be significantly reduced after the Government decided that it needed to be cut.

At the last elections in 2017 there were 123 councillors elected but in May there are just 87 seats up for grabs.

As a result the elections will be contested on all new boundaries with all councillors expected to represent more residents than ever before.

Election day is Thursday, May 6 but the votes will be counted the following day with results announced during Friday, May 7.
