There had been rumours, but no one really believed them. Snow in April?

Yet that is exactly what residents of Four Lanes woke up to this morning.

It didn't last long, melting once the first rays of spring sunshine hit it.

But there was no denying that this was a thin layer of 'the white stuff', which could be seen across gardens, roofs and surrounding fields - in shaded areas remaining even when the sun was well into the sky.

It marks a stark contract to last April's heatwave, when people up and down the country dealt with the confines of that first Covid lockdown - and for some the initial originality of furlough leave - by heading into their gardens for some restorative sunbathing and barbecue sessions.

Newquay Weather Station recorded a high of 23.3°C last April, with an average temperature for the month of 16.4°C.

By comparison, today's temperatures inland - such as Redruth - currently sit at around 5°C, but feel like 1°C due to the windchill factor, while on the coast, they are at 6°C but feel like 3°C.

According to the Met Office Cornwall can expect a largely sunny day and a dry week, with plenty of sunshine, but temperatures are unlikely to get above 10°C.
