A much-loved pub in Falmouth has reopened with new management after being forced to close due to lockdown restrictions.

The Front pub on Custom House Quay in Falmouth was the focal point of much upset from distraught patrons after announcing it would be closing its doors and putting its lease up for sale in March of last year.

However, times have moved on and, with the country now finally beginning to come out of lockdown and shops, pubs and restaurants opening their doors and beer gardens again, a new dawn for The Front is on the horizon.

The announcement that the pub was under new management came in December 2020, with the establishment saying in a social media statement: "We are delighted to announce that The Front is officially under new ownership and management.

"It was so important to us that The Front went to people who cared about it’s story so when a team of loyal locals approached us who wanted to continue its legacy, there was no question who we’d pass the baton on to.

"After lying dormant for nine months, manager Rob is working hard with some familiar pub faces to get the doors open again and the ales and ciders of all the previous suppliers flowing."

Now that time has come and new manager Rob Herron is working hard to regain the atmosphere and ambience that many locals and visitors alike have cherished over the years.

Rob said: "It's been interesting, it's been new, it's been a wild ride.

"We've definitely had a lot of support and people coming in, helping, wishing us well.

"It's been hard work but that's made it so much better.

"I'm quite new to it, but I loved the pub before, so it's my mission now to keep it just as good.

"We want to bring back the old events when we can, so there was the Breton Folk Dance on a Monday, so we'd love to have them back.

"There was the folk night during the week, an open mic night, there was quite a famous quiz on a Sunday, so we'd love to bring those back.

"Then hopefully we could also do some pop-ups, maybe some food, some music, it's just when things relax and we're allowed to, so we can obviously keep it safe.

"We've got a bit more table space and we've revamped it slightly without changing it too much so we can accommodate a few more people now safely.

"We've spken to all the locals who we used to drink with anyway and yeah it seems like people are really happy that it's back and its the same.

"I sleep better knowing that and we've got the support from everyone."

Rob was also hopeful that, this time around, there would be no going back to lockdown and the pub would be able to stay open.

"I flippin' hope so!

"I think as long as everyone does there bit and everyone just stays hot on it, and we'll see.

"Tourist season will be the test I think, with people coming down to the town."
