A WARNING has gone out to whoever is pouring purple paint into the drains leading to the Tregoniggie Stream to stop it immediately or face prosecution.

The purple water pouring from the drain into the stream in Tregonnigie Woods appears to be coming from the Longfield Estate area of the town.

Posting on his Facebook page, Cornwall Councillor Dave Saunby warned whoever is doing it could be fined.

"Looks like someone is pouring paint down the drain, which seems to be coming from the Longfield Estate area, and coming out into the Tregoniggie Stream just south of the two bridges.

"May I respectfully ask, to stop doing this, because it is polluting the stream.

"Thankfully it has now stopped, and the water is clear again, but if it continues, the Environment Dept, and South West Water will get involved, and will trace it back to its source.

"The recycling centres will take paint, so it can be disposed of properly, and safely."

This is not the first time pollution has poured into the stream from the drain. Back in March walkers reported a mysteriously-coloured liquid pouring out of a pipe in Tregoniggie woodland.

The blue-white coloured liquid was seen by two Falmouth locals who were out walking on the nature reserve.

They reported it to the Environment Agency who were going to carry out an investigation.
