A PLOT of land in a residential area of Weymouth sold for eight times its guide price at an auction.

Land adjacent to 8 Chapel Lane, near Dorchester Road, was one of the many lots featured in an online auction by McHugh and Co on Thursday, April 15.

The land, which measures approximately 2,700 sq ft, had a guide price of £5,000 and is open for further development.

Its brochure states that the land could be redeveloped and a property could be built there, subject to approved planning permission.

Starting at 7.30am, the auction’s history shows 37 bids were placed over a eight-hour period, as six people attempted to grab themselves a bargain.

Two bidders competed for more than a hour to secure the plot of land, which was finally won at 3.29pm with a winning bid of £40,000 - eight times its original guide price.

The land is opposite a derelict semi-detached house, which sold for £146,000 at an online auction by the same auctioneers in late February.
