Two young skaters have done their community proud and taken it upon themselves to clear up their local skate park.

Joe Distin and Corey Beard went to Helston skate park early Saturday morning to clean up after hearing a lot of recent bad press regarding the state of the park and the anti-social behaviour that's been reported there.

Their efforts even caught the attention of local skate shop Edge of Adventure with owner Christian Richard deciding to reward the two boys for their efforts.

Christian said: "We heard about two kids picking up the rubbish, we found out who they were and asked them to come in the shop and gave them a £20 gift voucher each.

"There's been some older kids, maybe even adults that aren't really behaving the way that they should be, there's been some barbecue fires, stuff like that.

"So these two kids kind of brought it upon themselves to clean it up and help the skate park get a better name.

"So they went around, they asked for bin bags and picked all the rubbish up.

"They weren't told to do it, they just took it upon themselves to do a pick up of rubbish really.

"I've seen a couple of posts that went up recently on Facebook just saying that the skate park's in a state, there's lots of rubbish around and teenagers going around misbehaving themselves.

"So I guess this could put a bit of positivity towards it and help make people aware that it's not all rubbish and it's not all doom and gloom.

"There is actually some good kids out there that just want to enjoy themselves and take care of the park."
