Coffee heads and foodies alike will be glad to hear that a new kitchen residency in Porthleven is bringing together a Cornish coffee roastery and wood-fired kitchen - and all in one place.

As of May 13, Cornish coffee roastery Origin Coffee will be hosting Blower's Place wood-fired kitchen as its latest residency - with a focus on zero-waste, seasonal and sustainable foods.

George Blower, the man behind Blower's Place, has been into food since he was a kid, citing his mum and grandparents as the reason he's always had a taste for good, honest food.

Having previously worked in branding, George had worked with some amazing places before sending himself to Leith's School of Food and Wine after which he set up Blower's Place in London.

After the Covid-19 pandemic hit, George lost his work and decided to move out of London and temporarily return to branding.

He and his girlfriend decided to move to Penzance and things have very much gone from there.

George said: "I've known Tom and the guys at Origin for about six years or so and I think through Tom seeing what I was doing on Instagram and stuff like that he sent me a message asking 'we're building a new roastery, would you fancy doing something to do with food with us?'"

"This was while I'd been in Cornwall for around two months, and that's kind of were it started really.

"It's this restaurant style of food in a 'come and collect it yourself'/street-food kind of way.

"The premise is that it's a wood-fired kitchen, so my aim is to use upwards of 85% Cornish produce.

"The style of food is seasonal, weekly changing menus that could be quite short, so maybe two mains and four to six sides which can be ordered all at once.

"It takes inspiration from middle-eastern, north African and southern European foods, but is equally what the team or I fancy each week.

"I want it to be really incredible quality food, fairly priced and inclusive to things such as gluten-free or plant-based alternatives."

Origin Coffee have recently moved to a new purpose-built 'hub' at the newly developed Tolponds business park in Porthleven, having previously been based in Helston.
