A fire has broken out at a Cornish beauty spot this evening, where flames and smoke can be seen rising into the sky.

The blaze is burning in woodland alongside Loe Pool, between Helston and Porthleven.

It is on the section near Degibna, around half a mile from the chapel.

It is understood that the fire service has been called and crews have recently arrived to tackle the flames.

We will bring you more details when they are available.

The fire comes just days after Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service issued three days of "wildfire risk warnings" over Friday, Saturday and Sunday, when crews carried out fire patrols due to the heightened risk of fires breaking out in the wild.

Following the recent spell of dry weather, the fire service said it made for extremely flammable conditions.

It gave a series of safety advice posts, aimed at prevent wildfires.

The fire service said: "The brighter weather has been brilliant but has made land dry.

"Help us reduce the wildfires fires that occur every year by avoiding lighting open fires and putting cigarettes right out to prevent wildfires."

Another post spoke about avoiding burning garden waste or using disposable barbecues in the countryside, as these could get out of control.

The service said barbecues should only be used at home in gardens and if a disposable barbecue was used it needed to be disposed of safely.

It went on to add on Friday: "Crews across Cornwall are preparing for fire patrols this weekend as there is a new wildfire risk warning, likely to affect Cornwall from today and into the weekend.

"The warning suggests that west and mid Cornwall shall have areas labelled as ‘high’ severity."

The cause of tonight's fire at Loe Pool is not yet known.
