FALMOUTH Town FC has been successful in getting an FA grant of £14,000 towards buying a new tractor but needs another £6,000 to meet the full price.

An application for the further amount was supposed to be heard at a meeting of to Falmouth Town Council's finance and general purposes committee on Monday evening.

However councillors were told that the club's Andrew Westgarth, who was supposed to make a presentation to the council, was unable to attend.

The application from the club showed that the tractor was needed to maintain the club pitch, but the current one wasn't fit for purpose.

The application said over the last six to seven years the club has made great strides on and off the field. It was now debt free and had started to upgrade the facilities from new floodlights, new grandstand roof and general maintenance around the ground.

"We have also made a link with Falmouth Community Youth so there is a stepping stone into men's football," said Mr Westgarth in the application. "Next we are in need of a new tractor to maintain the pitch as our current one isn't fit for purpose.

"We have applied and been accepted for a FA grant, who provide 70% (£14,000), and we need to find the other 30% (6,000). With the success of the team over the last two to three years with winning the Cornwall Senior Cup and League Cup we feel the club has become a corner stone of the community. With your help we believe we can continue to grow on and off the field."

Councillors voted to defer the application to the next meeting of the committee after the May 6 elections.
