A CHARITY row from Land's End to John O'Groats nearly ended in disaster after the small open boat beached in rough seas at Gwithian.

The open row boat hadn't got very far when it was caught out by the sea conditions as it was coming out of Hayle Harbour.

Portreath Coastguard Rescue Team were called out just after lunch today to reports of a small rowing boat aground at Gwithian with one person on board.

After searching the area they found the boat and its owner at the water's edge and helped drag it up above the high water mark.
