A Cornwall-based police charity has sent care packages to two officers injured in the line of duty.

Kreslu Police Charity, Kreslu being the Cornish word for police, has recently sent two officers who were injured while at work a package of luxury Cornish goods to help them get back on their feet.

Both officers are from Cornwall and had received injuries while carrying out their duties.

A police spokesperson said: "An officer from Camborne received a back injury whilst dealing with a violent suspect about a year ago and has just had back surgery.

"An officer from Penzance this week was dealing with a vulnerable person who was bleeding heavily and, whilst trying to provide aid during a struggle, was cut and had concerns raised about cross contamination of the suspect, and who had to be taken to hospital."

The charity, which was set up in 2017, works to support injured police officers and staff in Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly and provides a number of care and wellbeing services.

Ian Drummond-Smith, who set up Kreslu Police Charity, said: "I'm a police officer and former police commander for Cornwall and I established the charity in 2017 because I was fed up with the number of officers and staff that were getting assaulted and seriously injured.

"We wanted to do something for them, so I set up the charity and we fundraise throughout the year.

"We look after officers, staff and volunteers from Cornwall who are injured in the line of their duty or have a life-changing illness.

"There's a whole range of things we do, depending on where you are with us.

"We might just send you some vouchers, we might send you a hamper of luxury Cornish goods, all the way of to a respite break for you and your family or free entrance to Cornish tourist attractions.

"With a lot of these things, it's about the gift of time back to those officers and their families and it's also about letting those officer and staff and volunteers that we care about them.

"Over the four years we've been in operation, we've sent 150 recipients our support, and we've helped people who have inhaled smoke from fires while rescuing someone from a building, all the way to officers who were seriously injured and assaulted with broken arms, broken legs, and burns."
