A THIEF who targeted stores across Weymouth and Portland to steal booze and cutting tools has avoided an immediate jail sentence.

A court heard how Claire Veree Andrews Miller, aged 35, of Lennox Street, stole drill bits worth £59.85 from Lidl, in Dorchester Road on February 1, as well as stealing alcohol worth £69 from Tesco, in Park Road, Portland, on April 13.

Miller admitted the two counts of stealing from a shop and failing without reasonable excuse to comply with the requirements of an imposed community order, Poole Magistrates Court heard.

She admitted failing to attend two planned telephone calls on January 20 and March 2.

Miller received a four-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months.

She was ordered to pay compensation of £59.85 and £69 - bringing the total to £128.85.
