Flora Day may have been cancelled but that hasn't stopped Helstonians celebrating the day in whatever way they can.

Whilst making sure to still following all the government rules of social distancing, small groups of spaced out families stood on the pavement outside the Guildhall at 7am to watch the clock strike the hour and what would normally herald the start of the dancing.

Those waiting for the tune were not left disappointed, as three members of Helston Town Band, Ben, Ann and David, stood further up the town outside M&Co in Meneage Street to play the tune.

It brought a tear to many people's eyes, with the day so ingrained in the souls of Helstonians that a Flora Day without hearing the tune would be unthinkable.

Some friends met in small groups to share a drink, while others stayed as families to decorate their houses. Many businesses have also made the effort to decorate their windows, including the Bridal Studio that has set up a Flora Day outfit scene and the Sweet Pea Floral Studio that has created a flower extravaganza.

Outside the Central Methodist Church Rev Danny Reed has created a flower memory board, where people passing over the course of the day can leave a small bunch of flowers to remember past Flora Days and people connected to it.

While people in Helston may want to celebrate, they have been urged to not break any coronavirus regulations doing it, by staying in family groups or a maximum of six people, maintaining a two-metre distance and only meeting outside.
