However, a little bit of rain has never stopped Helstonians celebrating yet, and it wasn't going to this year.
While aware that social distancing meant celebrations would be limited this year, many people did what they could to still mark the day, from meeting with small groups of friends within the 'Rule of Six' to decorating homes and businesses.
Helston Town Band members also made sure the Flora Dance tune could still be heard this year, with a small trio playing in Meneage Street at 7am, the time dancing should have got underway, and then heading to Godolphin House Care Home later on to play outside for residents indoors.
Packet photographer Kathy White was out capturing the day in pictures, in what is hoped will be the last 'unofficial' day of celebrations before the event returns properly in 2022 - subject to the government guidelines at the time.
