An application for an 80 room hotel and 63 holiday villas plus infrastructure and parking is currently awaiting a decision from Cornwall Council.

The hotel and villas would be located at EstoverFarm, Consols, St Ives in Cornwall.

The plans were submitted in November of 2020 and new additions and amendments have been added gradually since then - the latest of which being amendments made in April of this year.

The application, made by Walker Developments, would include a 200 space carpark and space for services and amenities - including a 'community hub.'

The site is located on the south western edge of St Ives, adjacent to the B3311, approximately 1.7km from the town centre and harbour.

The site has previously been used for sporadic grazing.

According to the planning application: "St. Ives is a unique destination due to its outstanding heritage and rugged Cornish coastline.

"The proposed development provides an opportunity to create sustainable contemporary holiday accommodation that has been sensitively designed with the unique Cornish landscape.

"A place for people of all ages set within a thriving town on the edge of a quintessentially Cornish landscape.

"Energy efficient contemporary villas nestled synthetically into the landscape provides a variety of accommodation types from luxury apartments to private villas."

"Overall, the proposed development represents an appropriate proposition in a sustainable location.

"It will aid in the delivery of a new high quality tourism accommodation that is much needed in St Ives and Cornwall.

According to the planning statement from Maypool Estates: "The scheme will deliver significant short term and long term economic benefits.

"Construction activity on site and the long term management of the hotel business and chalet complex will create permanent employment on site.

"It is estimated that this will generate at least 20 to 30 permanent jobs on-site in addition to the wider local economic benefits.

"This is a significant benefit to the local economy."

The application has, to date, received 207 public comments at the time of writing, with a large majority of them expressing strong objections to the plans.

Mr John Moss said: "I wish to lodge my objection to this cynical application which will not benefit St Ives at all.

"Anyone who visited St Ives last summer will realise that that town was swamped with visitors which, apart from traders made the town a no go area for local people.

"To describe these eco sheds as an asset to the area is insulting and there is surely no need for another hotel.

"To state that it is a few minutes ride by bicycle is laughable - how many residents will be capable of riding into town?

"Where will all these bicycles be parked and can you imagine how the riders will get back up Stennack again?

"The comment about the old Cornish hedges being of local interest only is patronising in the extreme and clearly shows the contempt in which local people are held.

"Lastly the B3311 is extremely busy during the holiday season and completely unsuitable for another increase of traffic."
