A child has died following a collision with a vehicle at a campsite on the Lizard Peninsula.

Emergency services were called at around 12.50pm today, with the air ambulance attending.

Sadly the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family are being supported by specialist officers, while officers from the Roads Policing Team are carrying out an examination of the incident.

Traffic reporting system INRIX reported earlier than there had been a crash involving a car and pedestrian on the A3083, the main road between Helston and The Lizard, which was described as being close to the Cadgwith turn-off.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police and paramedics were called to a campsite in the Helston area following a report of a collision between a vehicle and a child at around 12.50pm on Wednesday, May 12.

"The air ambulance also attended the incident.

Tragically, the child was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

"Officers from the Roads Policing Team are currently in attendance and conducting an examination of the scene."

It was one of two collisions being dealt with by emergency services this lunchtime.

Another took place near to a primary school at Portreath.

The B3300 Penberthy Road was said to be partially blocked, with heavy traffic, due to a crash involving three vehicles.

Police arrived at the scene at 12.15pm, but the road has now been cleared and the debris and vehicles removed.
