A popular Helston market returned yesterday (May 13) after Covid-19 restrictions forced it close for months.

Monument Market, which is held behind the Grylls Monument on Coinagehall Street, made its long-awaited return yesterday after having to postpone due to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

The market was held between its usually hours of 10am and 2pm and saw stalls and marquees return a little bit of pre-pandemic normality to Helston.

The Monument Market has become a popular destination for shoppers and stall owners alike, with its relaxing ambience, easy-listening music and wide selection of goods and products to discover and enjoy.

The market also tries to encourage stall operators to look after the environment by discouraging the use of polystyrene and single-use plastics such as cups, plastic bags and containers.

The stalls featured at the market tend to be from not-for-profit organisations and charities, however, do vary into the likes of food vendors and other locally sourced produce.

In a post on social media, one stall operator shared the long-awaited news saying: "Following an extended closure due to coronavirus, the Monument Market will be returning again today

"The first community market will be open from 10am – 2pm around the bowling green behind the Grylls Monument on Coinagehall Street.

"Background music provides a relaxed ambience at this community market, where stalls feature an eclectic mix of local traders.

"Browsers and buyers will find everything from crafts and home baked food to hand-made cards and more.

"Teas and coffees will also be available at the bowling club."
