Cormac has given more details about when it hopes to reopen one of Helston's roads that suffered serious surface damage after water forced its way through.

The junction with Church Lane from Church Street had been expected to be shut for "at least a few days" according to a Cormac worker on site last Wednesday, the day of the closure.

It will in fact have been closed for almost a week by the time it reopens, with Cormac hoping to have completed the repairs by the end of Tuesday.

The damage is understood to have been caused by greenery and branches washing down the kennels and causing a blockage.

This resulted in a build up of water, which eventually forced its way up through the surface of the road, breaking through the tarmac.

Falmouth Packet:

The road was covered with water earlier in the day, but this later dispersed after the blockage was cleared.

The damage it left, however, was so severe that the surface was impassable by vehicles and meant a road closure sign and cones have been put in place preventing access to the junction.

Work got underway last Thursday to repair the road surface and also any damage underground.

The Packet was told that the extent of the unseen damage would determine how long the road is shut for.

A Cormac spokesperson has now said: "Cormac can confirm that work to repair the damage caused by a blockage in the piped section of Helston Leat is due to be complete by the end of Tuesday (May 18, 2021).

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
