Cases remain steady in the latest reported figures for coronavirus in Cornwall. 

Today's Covid update shows three new cases of the virus for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in the last 24 hours, bringing the overall total since the start of the pandemic to 14,310.

Weekly cases, which are on a delay, have dropped by three to 31 in the seven days leading up to May 23 – the most recent five days not shown due to incomplete data – a fall from 34 yesterday.

The weekly case rate has gone down to 5.4 cases per 100,000 people compared to 5.9 cases yesterday.

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK increased by 4,182 in 24 hours. This takes the total to 4,477,705 nationally since the start of the pandemic.

There have been no new deaths in Cornwall with the combined number of Covid-19 deaths in total in Cornwall’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic still at 265.

The overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – remains at 470 in the 28 days after a positive test, after the rise of one last Saturday.

Monday's update showed a death that took place at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust on Wednesday, May 19, involving a patient who had tested positive for coronavirus.

It was the first Covid-related death at the trust since April 23 and brought the total to 203 at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it remains at 62.

The number of deaths simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate remains at 570 in the most recent data available, as this figure is updated weekly on a Tuesday. It included no new deaths in the week leading up to Friday, May 7, the most recent date given.

NHS England hospital daily figures are now being published every weekday, rather than every day.

The overall UK figures show ten more people to have died within 28 days of their first positive test result. This takes the total UK deaths within 28 days to 127,768. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to the end of Thursday, May 27 a total of 38,871,200 people in the UK have received their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 24,478,052 people have had their second dose.
