Coronavirus round-up, May 31, 2021

Today's Covid update shows one new case of the virus for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in the last 24 hours, which means the overall total since the start of the pandemic is at 14,317.

Weekly cases, which are on a delay, have dropped by one to 23 in the seven days leading up to May 25 – the most recent five days not shown due to incomplete data – a fall from 24 yesterday.

The weekly case rate for Cornwall remains at four cases per 100,000 people.

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK increased by 3,383 in 24 hours. This takes the total to 4,487,339 nationally since the start of the pandemic.

NHS England hospital daily figures are now being published every weekday, rather than every day.

However, Friday's data showed no new deaths in Cornwall, with the combined number of Covid-19 deaths in total in Cornwall’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic still at 265.

Wednesday, May 19 saw the first Covid-related death at a hospital since April 23 and brought the total to 203 at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it remains at 62.

The overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – remains at 470 in the 28 days after a positive test.

The number of deaths simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate remains at 570 in the most recent data available, as this figure is updated weekly on a Tuesday. It included no new deaths in the week leading up to Friday, May 7, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show one more person has died within 28 days of their first positive test result. This takes the total UK deaths within 28 days to 127,782. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to the end of Sunday, May 30 a total of 39,379,411 people in the UK have received their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 25,537,133 people have had their second dose.
